Very nicely done, tons of depth, facial features and hair look natural. The shadows seem a bit too diffuse on the lower hair... maybe, also a bit iffy about the bra area.

Yeah, I should have used some hard shadows/ lassos
Very well rendered and colored, a perfect tribute! I'm still kinda sad the original writer of the (novelette) series, a Chinese man from the late 19th century, was never credited :(
Thank you! They re-made the series and it is god-awful ;0;
I never knew it was a book??
You've got some good coloring and shading skills! And since this piece is Pico Day related (as well), adding the tag 'picoday2015', will ensure this gets included in this years collection of Pico Day art.
thanks, and if followed your advice
I saw this behind the Front Page, when I logged onto NG from a hotel computer, a few miles away from Newgrounds on Pico Day. Shockingly good work. Everyone at the party was really happy with this.
Really proud of you man. I'm sure you learned a lot by doing this. All that time busting your hump on this piece, really shows. I'm glad I'm not the only fool who would invest such time into a place like this lol
Thank you, Vicarious. It was missing a comment of yours in this piece.
At this point, I'm very confident in modeling buildings and objects, although I feel I still have much to learn about modeling characters. One step at a time, I guess. ^-^
I fucking love it when you draw pieces, from potentially overlooked submissions here. Damn, you did this right after you sobered up? You're a true artist of the people!
Oh man, I started thinking about how I would draw this while still drunk!!! hahah
I'd love to wear this as a t-shirt to the massage parlor sometime ;) Eyes are a bit too wide apart, but I can see what you were going for... really fun piece! Hope the new tablet is to your liking!
Agree on the eyes and the t-shirt idea :D the tablet is just soooo gewd I loves it!
Enchanting. Terrific work on her nose! Great sense of depth using detail. The woman's features are artistically displayed in a very soothing way, as are the colors used.
Nope, no critique here, sorry, this piece is completely satisfying to me. Are those two little yellow things, under the left and bottom red flower, your mark?
Thank you! I'm very pleased you enjoyed my work so thoroughly. I was rather pleased with her face as well, she expressed the emotion I wanted her to perfectly and even her hair worked out well.
And yes, the marks near the bottom are my insignia, which is a stylized version of my initials, HG. You can see it more clearly at the bottom of the unicorn painting. I put the insignia on the front, my last name on the side, and a full signature and title on the back. :) I don't like taking up too much space on the painting with my name so I just cover all my bases on different parts of the painting lol. Maybe one day I'll grow out of that. xD
I've seen the ref pic to this, and it's an uncanny you alright! Looks really good after I blow it up with the magnify thing ._.
Aside from the scan/photo issues, this really shocked me, the lines are fucking perfect, the colors and shading are very, very attractive.. maybe not all the grid squares. I am so proud of you! Now go figure out how to clean up an image on GIMP or something, half star off for presentation. It hurts me more than it does you :(
I took another look at it blowed up, all the features are staggeringly good, it's an ungodly shame the resolution's not there, even the grid squares and light smudges would really add to this piece.
The finished thing looks way different cuz I changed it up so much
Thanks for the review
I'm guessing this is one you wind up? It's been a long time since I messed around with a camera like that, or seen such 1970's looking lines and colors. The linework is just to my taste as well, great work!
Thanks! and indeed, it's a pretty outdated camera now. The Bolex usually uses 16mm film and I had the pleasure using it for a couple film projects which led to this inspired poster
I found this while lurking the art portal, trying to catch up with things before I left for Glenside, but had no time to comment! Great sense of depth on those gourds.. was just about to look away when I noticed a murdered pumpkin face in the background! The crows and trees also look well rendered and lively. I grow pumpkins every year, because the deer don't kill them as much as other produce.
Very impressive canvas work, I'd love to see more!
Thank you for your comment! I like that you noticed the face at the last minute haha, I really wanted the face to be a very subtle part of the piece, almost enough to just unsettle you without really noticing it's there. :)
