That's a big dude. His eyes are a tad too far apart, I think. What draws me in: is he kneeling on a platform or levitating (the candles are wonderfully rendered, btw)? I really love trying to figure that point out, looking through the rain. With all the vertical elements in play, this thing rocks. What influenced the background? I'm thinking the album cover for Iron Maiden's, Somewhere In Time...

YouAreNotAlone responds:

Haha, that's just a painting on the wall, not a real person =D It's some kind of an icon in falling apart world. Gonna put a whole story in description later.
I just tried to create a desperate, cold and gloomy atmosphere, thats why i put those slums on a background - without any references, pure imagination.
And thanx for response!)

Most excellent representation in a dying style

This was vincent price of old, and he was cool. He die of lung cancer? The smoke skull upstages the smoker... This a recent pic? Append this work with some comments! Your experience (age) is a hot commodity to the younger artists here, so plz share:3

Michael1957 responds:

Thank you for noticing the details.

No worries, still legible and fun

Okay. You're already popular here, so anything you submit's gold, right? So let's say no one knows you here. This is still a valid and fun work of art. No color? Yeah, but there's, like, a lot pictures here. Lacking detail? No. There's a story, and everyone's well portrayed and emotive. Nice slice of (Canadian) life!

Very Interesting and Unique

One star off for the lack of flair or designs along the edges (really? meh, just being picky) and a lack of color. The portraits are perfectly indicative of old playing cards (especially the eyes) and really amazes the eye. I hope you go with classic playing card colors (and/or suits) on at least one set. Good luck with your submission. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Women are 52% of the population

They also have a tendency to get what they want too. I'm knocking a half a star off for the layout, 'cause I think a lot of women here at NG will probably fav this. It's a shame R. Crumb did himself in, but his son must still be drawing...
Oh, the other 1/2 star is missing because that's just too much pre-spunk to look at.

JWBalsley responds:

Thanks for the good comment and score. It's true, there's quite a bit of pre-cum to stare at, it kind of looks like pudding here, banana pudding, delicious banana pudding.

I think R. Crumb is still alive though, his brother Charles Crumb killed himself though, a year after they made that documentary on him, but yeah, both his son and daughter both draw or make comics.

Also, I drew this for a few girls I know because they were both fucked around by a couple of asshole guys throughout their life, so it was just a little pep for them, everyone needs pep you know. George Carlin has some funny stuff to say about men and even women, here it is, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJr5iUhORvc

Cheers!

You've been posting here for a while now...

Your drawings are really smoothing out quite nicely! I've always loved the style you attribute to your (almost always) female characters, but this piece shows how far you've come! This is proof that practice makes perfect - the face elements, hair detail and shading technique all show that yer no noob at this. Another good excuse to schlep on over to dA.

DawnieMewMew responds:

Aww, that's so sweet of you to say! I really appreciate the wonderful comment! *HUGS*

If you ever come to DA, say hi! :D

Excellent subject matter

They look a little pinched and short (you tried to cram too many on to the page, maybe ;). Still, they look awesome! Your style of drawing has made them even more fabulous to behold. Buy some more paper and let loose your talent bro!

That's a true picture!

I've known a few millionaire's to put on their bib overalls and get to work everyday, so this makes sense here. Edison used to have all the same suits, because it would save time not having to choose one over another.

ToonHole responds:

Haha, a time saver! I never thought about it like that!

That's the spirit!

Innovation, style and humor! Hope you make a killing on that invention - if not, add a marker adapter to fill in those more scalpy spots. File the patent, this is all you dude!

ToonHole responds:

I'll implement the marker idea if you'll go in halfsies with me. A new business is born!
