" VicariousE sez: “<Hi, I'm a secret, and I wish to breed and make many more secrets.....>”

how in the blue f*ck do you make comments on the front page

It's the only secret you get, when your voting/main level is over... 6, 7? Just vote on purple stuff/under judgement movie/game entries in the Portal... or just vote on 5 things per day. When you level up enough, check out your 'account settings', which is also where the monthly voting entry turns up, if you qualify (by being here a lot, I guess) - if you do qualify for the monthly vote, it should be there by the end of this week...

NG used to have a few videos which had to be taken down, because of big noise from big producers (like Johnny Utah's Fags of War parody of Gears of War), so, some of them were only accessible through secrets. And no one really knows what the Level 60 secret is... or if there's even one available now :\

Man, what about a real state agency aren't they giving any good deals?

It is December so you could buy it on steam for about 1 to 3 dollars, hell you may be able to get the whole collection for 7 or 10. GOG has good deals too but i don't know if they sell Bioshock there.

Go for Thief(4)!!!!! do it, do it nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

You can only list with one agency at a time (contractual, defined by how many months they have to close on a sale)... and there's so many shills out there >:(

It may come to that, depends on how deep the snow gets I guess... but Cyberdevil and I kinda share the same notion, that when you buy a game, it's yours, and you shouldn't have to ask permission to play it |: I think my 2 unlock codes are good for life though, so no rush there...

I saw some YouTube reviewer's take on the new Thief, and he wasn't too generous. Hell, I'd be happy just playing slightly older games, the ones missed in my 6 year gaming absence.

Ahh, useful. lol at their example image.

You're not thinking of this one are you? ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfenstein_RPG

Apart from the all-time awesome Wolfenstein 3D classic (there's an easter egg where you get to play a level from that game in this new one btw), I think I've only played Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Don't recall any RPG elements there... have only good memories of that game overall, albeit a bit fuzzy. Should give it another run someday. Hah yeah, those achievements can become an unhealthy addiction! Just look at all these medal games on NG!

True true. I used to have my gaming rig offline, and use this one for the net, then the ISP sent out a new router with more than one slot... haven't been disconnected in ages now, other than a couple days when my ISP were apparently DDoS'd by some of their own clients routers' hijacked wifi (for the record I have my wifi turned off). Things are different without Internet! :O

Yeah, that's how it should be! I love the GOG community in that regard, but some games... they just don't have.

@Doomroar yeah GOG don't have Bioshock... or Thief 4. :/ They do have the first three though, currently 75% off at $2,49 a piece! Though prices usually go lower. @VicariousE I wouldn't buy a game there if it wasn't on rebate btw, usually stick to titles below $2 unless it's one I really want to play, they have promos every weekend, holiday, etc. Far Cry or Thief? Hmm, tough call.

Whoa, no, never played the Wolf RPG, I was never much for portable games, though I did play a lot of the GTA ports from the little PS to the big PS. Return to Castle Wolf did have some very small RPG elements, things to collect, people talking to you, but it was pretty tame, just enough to explain the next round of bad guys, and what had to be done to advance.

Damn, I still remember writing a check and mailing it, to get the original Wasteland RPG, back in the 80's - no internet required... though it wasn't called the internet back then.

It will be a while before I'm caught up, but I don't mind doing a single check in, with whoever made the game - the Mass Effect games are (were) supposedly like that. I'm still handy with cracks and such, it's just going to take a while before I get my sea legs back again....

oh thanks for the info. Btw Level 60 secret is nude pics of Tom

Say what?! It's a rumor, surely... hell, I'd like to see any photos of his vasectomy O_0

Man such a horrible business model, they really want to corner people.

The games are tied to your account, and the account is yours, ergo the game is yours...

Then go for the old Thiefs and for Dishonored too, you should take the opportunity that both GOG and Steam are on sales.

Ah, so they cross check serial numbers, and deactivate the games use in other accounts?

You bet your pants mate, and in that order :) Still, I'm getting ahead of myself; still haven't got the new PC online yet... which is a shame.. I don't need much to access the internet and play the games here. It's nice to have a virgin computer, just in case something nasty crawls along the wire...

Oh, don't remember that at all, just a stream of endless action! Selective memory I suppose.

What was the Internet called back then? I remember getting magazine CDs packed with tons of tiny shareware games, amazing how many fit on a single CD back then... the furthest reaches of technical nostalgia on my part. :)

Sssshit. Network connection, dial up? It was called ARPANET in whispers before I got online (30 fucking years ago)... NSFNET was the one operating back in the late 80's, though not spoken of often. Balls, I'd have to watch WarGames, and listen, but even that flick was a glossy version of a dirty nerdy thing, you couldn't do with anything less than 3,000$ We mostly just dialed a certain number, user/password, then bingo bango bongo, we got text from another computer on the monitor :) The lag in text games was appealing :|

Yup, I had PC Gamer demo disks from 1999-2003, to make up for shitty or no internet at the time. Still got most of the CD's, then, DVD's I really need to consolidate my legacy CD's, some of which came from the WIN 3.1 - WIN95 era

You can pass one game to another account, but a game can't usually be with the same serial code in 2 accounts at the same time, however you can use your account to install a game in various PCs but those either play it from your account or without connecting to Steam, but if they don't connect to Steam the system can't make an online achievement registry among other things like know how many hours of a game you play etc, minor stuff, except the medals, the medals are serious business.

I guess you will wait until you are settled in a new farm then go for the new PC, seems like you have a good gaming plan.

Huh?! Gonna have to read your explanation again :\ Heh the only place medals matters to me, is here, against all the kids.

My original plan was to use the new PC to find a new farm (while waiting for the check to clear on the old farm)... still no word yet, the (potential) buyer has until this Friday to either buy, pass, or renegotiate the price. And I have till tonight to record a voice thing for the fornoreason 'voices of NG collab' O_O, as well as other stuff that's literally gotta get done before the end of the year.

lol, not $3000 for a text message I hope? WarGames huh, added to my watchlist. I'd heard of ARPANET, but not that other one.

I actually had a Mac back then. Well, my sister did, but I did get to play on it occasionally, and take over when she eventually upgraded to PC (it's still working well, old Mac Performa 630 with OS7 and ridiculously small amounts of RAM/HD space - no Internet though - I don't think it'd be able to handle loading modern websites even on old browsers... or even worse, loading a new browser). The school forced students to buy that hellishly expensive brand back then, doubt we would've had it otherwise, but that's where most of my awesome gaming memories live. The CDs I remember were all from 'The MAC', ca 94-96. Sooo many good games there, and little gadgets that'd make the monitor bleed or blow up, make icons, play piano, etcetc, heaps of freeware icons and graphics, sound effects, strories, anything you could ever dream of. Feels like the most creative computer times were the nineties.

My experience with Apple, was from 1985 to the mid 1990's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_IIc I might've gotten a lot of use from a word processor and a very few games, but it really wasn't worth the hellacious price tag. Shortly before it died, a guy at work (someone who stole my father's self winding watch from the company sink, but never admitted it) gave me a bunch of Apple II floppy discs from some long dead Apple magazine... out of a dozen discs, only 3 or 4 of them had programs worth a damn.... so damn primitive. So yeah, I agree, computer things really didn't take off till the 90's were well under way.

Oh, and congrats on the new song and game submission today! Still have a few end-of-year things to do myself, including the Voices of NG Collab thing, post office run, food run, then research how to format an SATA HD and make it work on my new mobo... think I need the RAID software

In essence games are tied to your account, but some games can be in more than one account with just one serial, and since you can install steam in various PCs you can play the same game in various PCs at the same time while using Steam offline.

To think that tomorrow is going to be 2015; i see so you wanted to get the new PC before the new farm, it seems like a 2015 is going to be a year filled with new things for Mr VE.

Hmm, so buying used games online shouldn't be a problem then?

Lol, tell me about it... wanted so much stuff done before the new year. At least I got a certain mystery box sent, just hope it doesn't bite me in the ass (customs). 60 bucks to send a little package to the land down under, and well under that to fill up the truck with gas! Was totally shocked to see gas at 2.05$ a gallon! I doubt all those gas surcharges and transportation fees are gonna go down anytime soon though |:

Oh i forgot to mention the seasonal cards, they are like medals, but you can sell them for money, or you can craft them into tokens and buy games with them. However they looks so damn nice i haven't been able to part ways with even one.

Hell I'm just lucky to have seasonal medals from NG! Wish there was a record of the ones the staff gives out for being on their page on Halloween.

I'm a pretty low maintenance gamer, when it comes to major PC games. I haven't played a mod since the first Half-Life (the one that doesn't require Steam)... I know there's a few really good ones for HL2, even Paxilion made reference to one lately...

My brother borrowed one ancient black and white Apple computer with just a floppy drive from his university one summer, so I have had the honors of tinkering around with one of those too, though not sure which model it was. Definitely a bit limited functionality! I think it had Mine Sweeper. Though Word processing was why he had it. Mmm, glad to hear it from someone who's been around further back!

Thanks, just animated a little New Year's short too, about to put up some art. It's amazing how efficient you get when there's a deadline! :P Even though I've spent half the day in bed battling a (probably in-tension) headache! They always seem to dissipate by night fall though.

Happy New Year btw!

Black and white, really? Maybe the first ones built out of the garage were.. bet it's worth a fortune now! With only 128 kb memory, I could only write a dozen pages or so before I'd have to save the file, I think the word processor took around 40 or 50 kb... cut copy paste save load, no mouse, only the cursor. Pretty sure Borderbund made it, they made lots of great software :)

Lol, yeah, I peeped that before even checking in here, I gave the game a 4 and the video a 3, pretty unfair of me, I would think... yeah, your neck gets uber stiff when toiling at the screen - they used to make an app that would move the text around on screen, just enough to prevent cramping up. Used to happen to me on certain video assignments. I can only wonder why I didn't ask my Pop to make me a steadicam, I had pictures of them O_o

Happy new year old friend!

Hmm, at least no color, it *might* have had a larger spectrum of grays. I wonder what happened to that computer, or the other old ones they had... lots of schools probably threw away such awesome equipment in favor of the new thing back in the day. Bet they're regretting that now! :D That's pretty amazing... even a tiny app like Notepad takes up a whooping 1,5MB today. Whatever happened to efficient use of resources!

Too low? :P I got an award for the game though... third place! Wasn't expecting one at all! Really threw together that thing last-minute to get it out before the grand new year was here... but I'm not complaining! :D Did take a few pretty strainsome hours after all. Mmm, too much computer can have some painful side-effects, though they appear at the most inopportune and unexpected moments. Steadicam sounds useful, never been too much for the overused shaky one in modern movies. :)

Very expensive equipment for it's time |: It basically raped the educational system, which is supported by taxes. Apple and Intel loved doing that, and probably still are.. no probs about it, iPads for school? Why bother... unless, sure, give them ones with simple locked in apps, cheaper to make and break.

Hm the video is under 3 and the game is 3.71 right now... but which one took the longest to do? Ah, everyone loves NG-centric stuff here ;) I kinda didn't need a steadicam back then, since the cameras were bulky and shoulder borne, though having a fluffy vest helps reduce jitter, like a gun, depends on where the weight is.. which is why I liked my old Canon L2, which could be used like an SLR, look down, hold by your crotch kinda thing.. low center of gravity, easier to control

Why used? just buy them digitally they will be tied to your account stored in the cloud.

That's some cheap gas! 60 on a mystery box? just think how many games that could get you? all the way from 1 to even 60+!

All the HLs that's another must you have to get, along with the portals, the Orange Box in resume.

I'm getting my internet at 100 meters on a borrowed wireless G channel, that happens to match the wifi of the house behind it... I did pick up one helluva fancy wifi radio recently, should be like shit through a goose!

Yeah, lots of stop and go in NJ, they keep prices low here, so we can pay taxes on tons and tons of other shit that gets squandered by trolls. Well I'm just paying back the favor for the mystery box that was sent to me, which was awesome!

Dat orange box must be in the top 10 best selling games of all time, must be.

Searches "shit through a goose" mmh surprisingly nothing awful appeared! this year is looking up, Happy new year btw!
Oh then it should download like shit through a goose, and then you can play them offline if you want.

Hmm is like anything can be too good to be true. Ah i see, anyway that still can get you lost of games nowadays.

Definitively.

Usually means voluminous and prompt output
Possibly so, she's got a 50 MB connection and wireless N, though mine can do AC whatever that is...

My nephew's school's giving out ipads for free... I thought that was a local thing, as in: not happening elsewhere in the world! I don't like it. Wonder if they've made any commercials about handing Apple to teachers hmm...

The NG Levels one took waaaay more time total, but I'd already done most of the work in last year's editions. Yesterday was probably 2-3 hours adding in new levels and an interface to seamlessly combine the two, and fix all the bugs I kept finding during testing. The other one... not sure, time was running away pretty fast before midnight but it might've been a bit less, there's not that much visual content, just a tiny bit of FBF for the flame and the explosion, didn't have to spend time on sfx or music other than search up some suitable ones.

Heh not always! Last time I submitted a level gadget most initial comments were about how it 'wasn't a game'. ;) (was sorted in the Gadgets > Other category back then too, though). People warmed up to it eventually, but I don't think I was anywhere near the Top 5 of the day with those. Back in the old pays people definitely loved this kind of stuff... maybe it's becoming a thing again! 20th year anniversary and everything, a swarm of Reddit users entering the palace... plenty of nostalgia to go around!

Yeah, I heard about that one! :) Any plans to procure a steadicam now? Seems like a low-gravity type of setup: http://www.tuxboard.com/photos/2014/08/steadicam.jpg

Kids here have to put down a 150$ deposit, and 50$ of that they don't get back at the end of the year O_O

Okay, I hear ya, so it all turned out for the best, with regard for submission scores for that day... shit you gotta medal for 3rd :)

Are there more Reddit peoples as members now, or a combo of new and old reddits? I do like the members online thing in the BBS, something to keep the BBSers in a reality check, that there's more to the site than just Forums.

Whoa that's a 21st century design, that is! Almost needlessly complex though... guess it depends on the camera used. Actually, I take it back, I've seen them used in the past few years, but never used the full on one myself, just the solid hangar that offsets the center of gravity, and would at most use a sling or a belt.

Commercializing the educational system... for shame. :/

Yupp. :)

Mmm, seemed to be a bit of both posting in that Welcome Redditors post. True that, doesn't really represent activity on the site overall, but am I just imagining things or are there generally more users on the BBS than there were last year..?

Haha it did look pretty high-tech! Alright.

It's 3 in the morning on the east coast of the USA and there's Registered Users Online: (737) In Forums: (50) Somehow (in the short time I've noticed the bean counter was there) it looks like NG has a constant flow of users online of about 900-700 at any given time... it's been in that range every time I checked so far.

Yeah, I think the BBS has has picked up a bit, the circle turns....

Hmm, 42 on forums and just 22 in General, bit strange how more people are viewing the forum overview at any given moment than actually viewing topics! Wonder if people just have that page open, or if there are just that many new arrivals all the time, counted before the click their way onto a certain board.

When they count together the total like this it definitely seems like more! Hadn't noticed this new feature before. Still a long way to go before we beat the old record I guess, even the record after the old record was erased, but it's picking up! Good times!

Btw, shouldn't you be sleeping right about now? I hear it's 3 in the morning EST. O_O

Eh, sometimes the landscaper across the road makes a hell of a ruckus in the morning, usually around 6 AM to whenever, it's usually pretty quiet there, but new year's eve they were moving equipment and dirt around... plus a neighbor finally came over for his free hydraulic fluid I had sitting out...

Well, we'll see how well NG does this year, the new stat in the BBS will be something to look at... did you see my rant to Tom in the Wrapping Up 2014 post?

I know that you all want to believe on the strength of the Reddit hype train, but as far as the NG subreddit goes:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Newgrounds/ the place is really deserted... which is good for me because i got myself a free game since there is no activity on the NG subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Newgrounds/comments/2ox5wq/newgrounds_treasure_hunt/
But then what does this means? that out of the 11k users that came to NG to watch the NumaNuma video only less than 1k signed into the NG subreddit, and who knows how many from that 1k signed into NG. Meaning that yeah, that was just a one time thing and unfortunately nothing more.

So this is pretty much needles to say but what generated the spike was also not from the NG subreddit, it was from the videos subreddit, and to add more to this... the top comments on that post are about how Newgrounds is surprisingly still around, yet it is dying http://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/2od9bp/its_been_10_years_today_since_this_video_hit_the/ ok to be fair redditors are mostly assholes but half of that post is either people that doesn't knows NG at all, and people then people that knows of NG but thinks that the page took too long actualize or simple hasn't actualized at all.

But all in all a 3k up votes on con a 10+ years old content is quite good, now if new content could do the same, lets say 2 or 3 times in a row, that would help to NG actually getting users, not just views but actual users, of courses that would happen in other subreddits, since the NG is pretty much empty.

And that's the story.

So it was a flash in the pan then, a quick spark off the beaten path, drew a few folks over to our side... maybe if we offered free hats?

I still like our little cult of creativity here, suits me just fine.

It was just a nostalgia trip for a few people who remembered that viral NumaNuma video, which wasn't even up to NG standards! Just shows how fickle and lazy people are about their entertainment needs. The few IRL life people I've met that knew about NG, always said the Art Portal was the most notable thing here... odd.

Well, I'm here, you're here, and just over a 1000 users are online right now... not bad, also not empty.

I don't know, Valve is the only company so far to successfully lure people with hats, who knows.

Maybe they remember it due to all the hentai on it? it is uncensored too...

Oh i mean the NG subreddit is empty, not NG the page, and i say that the subreddit is empty comparing the total of users that it has comparing it to other subreddits.

I never futzed around with many other sites, so... but an NG subreddit doesn't sound like much would be goin on there anyway - all the hot air is on Tom's newspost and the BBS.

lol, sounds like incredibly early mornings over there!

Not yet but, checking now... ah, ponderings on how the site can transition onto the new era! I like the solution of having a new site for all the sfw stuff, not sure how the split would be otherwise (if the same login system would apply to both sites, for example) but it seems simple enough to have everything in one place, and the name wouldn't be stained with prejudice for the new one either.

And eh... something about the tank logo looking a bit chunky, not as pompous as it could be?

lol, just like this morning before 8am

To me, the login is a big deal - to jump from one site to another with the same info would be good, as most humans are 18/21+ I asked Tom last year what the big deal was... you have to prove your age when you make an account here, why not use that to segregate things? I still dislike logging in here, and having to uncheck the A for adult :p

Nah, it's a metaphor my buddy came up with... NG's tank seems to be running in place, as opposed to climbing hills. lol, we're just not easily marketable I guess
