Oh I agree about the BS and plot holes, but the EM field and solar activity were legit, save the Bruckheimer effects. Too bad they don't call it the Van Allen belt anymore :( I liked the sound and solidity of that.....

The EM and the solar activity are the ONLY accurate things about that movie, because it's the consequence-- The movie focuses much more on the physics of the core, nukes, and the use of a ficticious wonder element that operates under extremely suspicious properties.

My guess right now is the government has something going on in that area, and something fucked up-- Now they're going to clean it up with the A-10s. Just a speculation though.
Could also be some sort of weapon testing, highly doubt that though, so close to populated areas.

I listened to that youtube video with the explosions on the site-- It really sounds like something man made to me, Cosmic radiation would be much more catastrophic, and they wouldn't be sending A-10s in to check it out. They would however cover up their tracks, much like the EPA's been doing, to keep some sort of government secret hidden from the public and to prevent massive panic.

ever drive home in the rain, only to find out your house didn;t get a drop? 5 years ago my town got hot a by a supercell for the better part of the day (it just stayed there :|) - we got 8 inches in one day, while everyone else got about an inch. also, a lot of what's west of here is not wall to wall ppl..........
