Last week I spent 300$ getting the brakes fixed.

While on my way to get rid of 3 months of household garbage, ENGINE OVERHEAT came up on the dash, then the truck started juddering.

A test at a local garage shows fuel mixing in with the coolant - the head gasket has been blown, likely due to a faulty themostat, which was replaced for 250$. I spent another 15$ for a sealer, but it didn't seem to work.

I've got no wheels and no way to travel 100 miles to attend Pico Day.

So that's that. UPDATE: I'm going try flushing the radiator, and adding fresh sealant and anti-freeze myself... I wasn't happy with the way this unknown mechanic drained the system, maybe the second time will be the charm. If not, Pico Day is going to be the least of my concerns.

If it does work, I might barely able to make it. It's raining and windy outside, so I don't know if I'll have time today to try it OR if any one that lives close by, can help me get the stuff I need in town. Just hope I can pop the hoses with the few shitty tools I do have on hand

IDK, maybe, I'd pick up tolls and I've got a free room for the night... but I don't feel like trying to nail anyone down. The NYC guys take me with a grain of salt, Voltage has a long enough run.

I tried getting an active member, who lives near me, a ride to the party a few times, but he feels like it's not in his cards to go :\ Not sure he has a car, likely couldn't borrow one.

Yeah and it's been pretty wet and miserable outside, and the only guy who'll give me a ride to get more radiator sealer, is a bit of a pain in my ass and head at times.... I wanted to do that before it got dark tonight, instead, he's talking about computer shit and debating my diagnosis. He wants to help, but there's times he just doesn't know when to switch off.

Yeah but you're part of the NG infrastructure, and have sweet content uploaded here. I still haven't gotten around to digitizing my old Hi8 and U-Matic tapes, which would have to be uploaded elsewhere anyway.

To save my Pop's 2000 Chevy truck I'd have to: replace the head gasket, the heater core (which rusted up internally, 3 years after it rolled of the assembly line), and the radiator (which ceased to circulate, thanks to the buildup of heater-core rust at the bottom). Most mechanics won't touch the first two items, and would cost around 3000$ to do all 3, and for that price I could get something else.

I was on Chat for 2 minutes (day of event) before I got deeply upset, and left after saying, "2 dimensional rubbish"

For what it's going to cost to fix the truck, I can buy a used car. I still want to meet my preferred mechanic, face to face, and see if he's up for it. If not, he'll likely know someone worthy who can scrap the truck :( If the head got warped, it's not worth doing the gasket, or replacing the heater core, radiator and possibly the water pump...

What really sucks: everyone's too busy to give me a ride anywhere.
