I'd still aim for an appartment, as a former real estate owner everything is probably going to feel low rent to you anyway.
That said, also try to conjure up some positive/cathartic momentum to come out of the loss of your ancestral home, it's going to beat staring at a strange ceiling.
With an apartment, I'd have to sign a lease, and there's not many landlords who like brief stays of less than a year, I had trouble finding anything for 3 months... I'd really like to get a place of my own, pay shitty school and municipal taxes, be able to put a nail in the wall, wherever I damn well please...

Man that sucks. I really hope you're able to find a place to settle down at. Even if it's in a crappy trailer park on the edge of town. Anything is better than possibly living out of a car or something to that degree.

Well there ARE some whose food isn't that great. But yeah. Their food generally is pretty good. Especially the pizza. We used to get pizza from there frequently. It's about I wanna say $12-14 for a large 2 topping and a "specialty" isn't too much more. They also have subs, popcorn chicken, burgers, chicken tenders, doughnuts, cheesecake, etc.

Oh forgot to write about the second part of the message, haha, well man, if farming is really that important to you, you will have to go for the option with little maneuverability.
It used to be important to me... all I really need is an acre or two to be happy, more than that, would be an occupation (and likely certain doom). The real estate market changes every month, hopefully I'll find somewhere slightly remote, cheap, and un-suburbanized to live.
Maybe living on the outskirts of a dying town... or even in town, might be an option. Still trying to feel it all out, since we're getting the bare lowest price for the farm :(
how many cats? christ or if the people you left the mower with will even use it. if they're on acres of land I would hope so, my neighbor has one of those but I'm in a pretty suburban area where everything is compact and it's almost unnecessary for one of those, i haven't seen them use it in years tbh lol. also good luck with finding affordable housing, it's always a pain but you'll be able to figure something better out than that last deal ^^
Uh, too many cats. I'm thinking about leaving the oldest and her 3 kittens here (or rather, with the next door neighbors), the rest will have to... get put into cages, something outside cats don't tolerate well :(
I ended up using the weedwhacker and some stale 20:1 mix gas to cut the front lawn next door, which is only a little strip, but still took me an hour. I got a battery the other day for the riding mower, and it's finally charged up... what an awful thing, selling car batteries with no charge, and charging me extra, just to bring it back to them, after it dies O_o stupid state, can't wait to leave it....

What KIND of indoor farming? You mean pot, or like plastic hothouses? I've never done either, both take practice to pull off. as well as some prior book learning.
Nah, odds are slim I won't be able to find anything big enough to farm, even the idea of buying a house is troubling, considering the economy... So, I'd almost wanna buy a small undeveloped plot right off the road, buy a trailer, then farm around it. Have someone come in, drill a well, the other utilities don't cost much to bring in, plus I can dig the trench from the road with my Pop's old backhoe/loader if there's water and gas on the street... hope so!
It is similar to the plastic hot houses, there's this thing called hydroponics systems which would allow you to have an indoors farm, instead of being an horizontal growth it would be vertical, that way a room can become a farm, the more advanced ones rely heavily on LED light, so it could pack a punch on the power bill, but you could also use a see-through ceiling, but then with a system like that you will only have one floor of plants in that room which would be a waste of space.

Well trailers nowadays are quite comfy, but still... i guess the main problem would be water, finding a well seems like a hard gamble, specially with all those water poisoning news due to fracking that you heard lately.

Lately there's been interest on atmospheric water collecting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmospheric_water_generator, the things are not really all that practical right now so i don't know how viable they may be as a real solution for water issues.

There's a chemical we used to use, that would pull humidity out of the air at night, kinda expensive, but that was over 10 years ago, no idea what it was called, but it was made of natural elements.... worked great for corn, that and piling more dirt on top, when things got dry
That's a shame they might take down the farm it's such an interesting piece of history, and i don't see that look in a lot of areas in New England (though i may be wrong). If you're able to please try to find a decent shelter that won't kill the cats, or maybe some people here (or craigslist or reddit it's amazing what those reddit animal lovers can accomplish). Best of luck with family adventures too, those ara a doozy but interesting stories.
I have a good lead on where the cats can go, at least they're friendly and affectionate, and will kill and eat anything smaller than them. I noticed a 2 mo. old kitten feasting on a finch the fuzzy mama cat killed today...

It is as dangerous as a tanning salon, so i guess the answer is yes, it is, but not for the plants, or the people who eat them, as longs as you don't stay in there with the lights on for extended periods of time it should be fine.

Hmm, still, if it hails outside, or bad wind or flood... sometimes plants can't recover. Can always get a generator to keep the lights on and pumps working. I'd think mold would be an issue, growing inside, even with decent ventilation.

Not really you could use a minimum of water if you use Passive hydroponics, but i guess farming gets harder that way, however if you use the right light you can feed your plants while keeping the mold dead at the same time.
That's true, but those lights don't blanket every surface. I've heard mold can be a problem with hydroponic systems

Ugh your situation really sucks man. Maybe you want to fill me in, because I feel like I'm missing something here. I was reading through the comments when I noticed you're looking for a temporary place. Something shorter than a year. Isn't it in the best of your interest to stay longer than intended though? Also, what happens afterwards?
If the sale goes through, the property will sit and wait for tests, studies, and approvals which will take a year or more. Then it gets bulldozed, and a few expensive houses will sit upon it. The the buyer makes his money back. There are still many unknowns, as to what happens next - I'm the most affected, and have the least amount of info and persuasion. Money talks, money always matters, and money is the root of all evil, so....
So if the new owner doesn't mind, I wouldn't mind paying him rent, until I can find a place of my own... but I think that's unlikely for many reasons.
It's a complex, and yet different situation than the last buyer, who was supposed to have brought the farm before Christmas last year... either way, me out, you know?
