@Cyberdevil

who knows, perhaps I was addressing cd.newgrounds.com!

I think everyone needs to get better and join communities, if we're going to survive the 21st century.

@S3C

Maybe he'll finally wake up from his long-time activity slumber. :P @CD Yo where you at?

It sucks seeing accounts like that, lying dormant for over a decade... either from a whimsical joining, or someone trying to make a buck on a 2 letter login name :\

There'll always be corporations fed by greed and gluttonous ambition, but at the same time there'll always be noble warriors who fight these irritable instincts, and make the world a brighter place, fighters like Bruce! Jackie! Yuen! Xiao! Samu! Tony! Jet! Chuck! Foo! Or maybe you were hinting at the potential for his mysterious death being something more than just a tragic event? :/

Yeah, and all the fates behind all these dormant accounts we do not know, how many are dead, how many have lost their passwords, how many have forgotten their names, I wonder... I wonder how easy it'd be for someone to brute-force that password, accounts back in 2000 can't have had particularly strong ones...

Jackie Chan's a bit of a live wire, isn't he? At least he's more hit than miss, though I wasn't thrilled at his multiple retirements from film.

Hacking the dead, uggh! Wade apparently had to shut down a few accounts recently due to something like that... it's a closed thread in General now. Can only wonder how often this happens

Yeah, and still going strong! The CZ12 movie had some crazy stunts once again, and he just hit 60! Tough old man. Though Danny Trejo almost puts him to shame, 70 years old and still played a part in a whole 19 action movies last year, and almost 20 movies are in post-production right now. It's crazy...

Oh wait... Jackie's retired?!

Ah, so other people have thought of it too. It'd be a good security measure to have any account that's not accessed in say one or two years automatically shut down... or maybe five years, save the staff some potential work unlocking... actually, it'd be great with a user-specifiable option to auto-lock an account after a certain amount of inactivity, like Gmails option to either delete your account or send out a message to all contacts once you don't log in for a time period you specify. I can't say I like the delete option though, imagine if someone hacks an account, sets a time period on maybe a month and then has it all purged...

Huh, guess he's not done yet... I know he's said he's been retired at least twice already, and man, I can relate - the human body can only deal with so many bent and broken bits |: Always loved Danny Trejo... how can you not love that faic?

I'll give (what staff is left) a shit-ton of credit for operating smart. In fact, Brendon did some software tweaks, got my NG bandwidth back to pre-throttling levels! Odd thing is, pictures load at about the same hang-dog speed, but movies and swf's are nice and fast!

I don't think he'll ever retire. He seems to like his work, maybe he'll lay of the stunts eventually but I can't imagine him quitting! All the old action stars keep coming back, Arnold, Van Damme... they're never too old. :) Haha, that faic is awesome. Just watched Machete Kills yesterday, great movie, that grittiness of the eighties combined with great actors is a unique blend, I'm not used to seeing people like Mel Gibson or Lady Gaga in flicks like this! Or good acting. Trejo's not the best actor... but he's got style! :D

Bren's The Man! Wonder how he managed that if the problems with the ISP though.

Machete can't act, but he's been a staple of older action flicks for years, gotta love him for it. Well, I'll look out for the new movie then!

Ah, something about a new CDX thingy, "Brendon is trying something today though with a CDN (content delivery network) to speed up performance... Seems to be working." And fuckin' A, it is :)

Word. And it looks like there'll be a sequel... in space. :)

Ah, that explains it! I guess all heavy media files are delivered through the CDN, with a different provider, and the regular site/database is the same as always. Explains the speed.

Go on! Rly? Better look legit and not campy...

Well, we gave Tom a few bucks to do the right thing... guess he's doing just that, though I don't like the slightly defeatist attitude about NG's future prospects. Moving all the adult stuff to another site would kinda bum me out, though if it gets more and better content providers here.... idk.

Yeah, Machete light sabers and everything! It better be legit...

So it's happening? I don't know what I think, will have to see the change to see if it works out or not I guess, I had mixed feelings about the past redesign both before and after it happened, it'll probably be the same with the next change too.

Tom's no slouch, but I still hope we can keep all the content right here... though he already bought another website name/domain for the Adult stuffs. He said no big ad company would advertise here, with the adult stuff on the same server... I asked Tom about the registering ages (only NG members 18+ could access A rated stuff)..... he said it hadn't been tied in. Hmm.

@VicariousE @Cyberdevil @S3C @CD

maybe they lost the password to their account? and have been trying to log onto NG for the past decade+.

Well, technically I did lose my password for a couple of years... but the 'cd' account wasn't even used (one vote does not an account make). I wonder if accounts like that could be closed, and sold... like 25$ gets you a sweet username and a supporter tag?

@lol @S3C

You'd think they'd contact support within that time span! But who knows!

As for having old unused accounts purged and using that name, I remember a couple of users did that (no cost) but the accounts in question were complete unused, not a single EXP, not a... oh wait, 2EXP's probably the EXP you get when you check the "get newsletter/p-bot posts" boxes... so, that's one of them accounts after all. Just went on a little username browsing spree, found an active one-letter user: http://d.newgrounds.com/

That's pretty cool. I'm amazed some one-letter names actually weren't taken until 2003.

So the 18+ limitation might be a possibility?

It's very remotely possible, that one letter usernames were forbidden in the very early days of NG... huh.

IDK, Tom was very sure the advice he got on mature content was legit, so in that respect, having adult content segregated by user's birthdate doesn't really matter... or does (will) it?

Most are registered right after the millennium transfer, 2000, so looks more like people just weren't going for all one letter names from a start, the latest I found were from 2003. Actually just found a free two character name btw, I think I shall register it... yeah, OK! Back again. 6b, 7b, 8b are also free btw.

There's probably more of these available than I thought...

Ah, I guess I'm still more or less happy with my username, though I could drop the E (for entertainment). Every blue moon, I think posting in the BBS with an alt, might be a good and character affirming thing... probably explains why I loved doing character acting for TV before the turn of the century.

Affirming for the ALT/you? In what way? I'm too obsessed about post count to do something like that haha, but it'd be fun indeed. Not caring so much about stats would make for much more carefree communication...

Hells yeah! Being your brutally honest self, first gut reaction to things, is a lot different than how you and I act on here (or at least to those more colorful personalities in the BBS... and blogs too).

But if you are truly brutally honest then people will soon know which ALT that ALT belongs to! That's true though, total anarchy of opinion, typing on impulse, whatever I think I say... kinda like I used to do when I signed up ten years ago...

My folks raised me like they were raised: children are to be seen and not heard, early to bed, early to rise and all that. So suppressing my more venial opinions is old hat... and remember, actors are born lairs, so I should have no problem emulating my alter ego
...should I desire to do so.

So my dad and sister were up in the Chicago area for like 7 hours today because my aunt had to go up there for an operation.
They found out that she has Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer.....
They wont know exactly how bad it is for another 4 or 5 days.

Shit man, sorry to hear that, hope it's just limited to the ovary/ovaries and hasn't spread. The younger the person, the faster it spreads. Best to keep her calm and happy.

I hope so too. Out of all of my aunts (on both sides) I like her the most....
Well I wanna say shes in her early 50s.

Damn. Yeah, keep her calm and happy. Must be a long ass trip, but seeing her regularly will surely help. If it's real bad, what I was told: pull out all teeth with fillings or holes, stop eating all processed foods...

Well she lives one town over from me. Shes just up at the hospital for the operation and staying there for a few days for recovery and all that.
Hopefully it isn't THAT bad.

So I'm singing along to this. And I can kinda sing in this style moderately "okay".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpm5UrpM0ik

Mm, they don't call it the 'big c' for nothing |:

Guy's got a good clear voice, great inflections and intonations. I'm glad you got the liberty to be able to sing... I'd have gotten my head bashed in for such tomfoolery, in or out of the house.

Yeah.....lets just hope it isn't like super super serious or anything.

He also went on to be a somewhat well known producer. He produced the first couple Kiss albums.
The bassist Kenny Aaronson went onto play with people like: Rick Derringer, Brian Setzer, Billy Idol, Blue Oyster Cult, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Billy Squier, Mountain, and others
The drummer Marc Bell went on to have the stage name "Marky Ramone". And has played with: Richard Hell & The Voidoids, The Ramones, Michale Graves (singer for Misfits after Danzig). Among others.

There's a much better and older flowchart out there... my brother has a print of it, and it is RAD.

Found this one though http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2718/4413987999_f33402d6e5_o.jpg

I like how Nirvana is the only one that is connected to 3.

Hmm, I'm sure there's a band or two that predates Nirvana's grunge seattle scene... I haven't really taken in the picture yet, been whoring around the blogs on and off all damn day O__O

I'm pissed i can't import text into a blog, but everything else, I can :p
Think I better split for the night, take care homey.

Well yeah. You got Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Melvins, Screaming Trees, Green River....
Mark Arm (singer for Mudhoney) is credited with giving the genre its name.

What do you mean?

Goodnight.

You can't cut n paste text into a blog by right clicking anymore... right click function just bounces off the field. Now you gotta use the buttons to do anything other than type.

Ah, I'm one of the lucky new generations then! Though my brother was the only one truly raised freely, when my sister started growing up he tried raising her (telling her to keep quite, or stop doing stuff, etcetc) and she kept the tradition alive. :P

Ah okay.
Can you still highlight then drag and drop text?

Don' think so; it's not doing the OLE shuffle..... just thinks it's a webpage, not a text field or compatible app. Doubt it's an OS peculiarity.
