it's almost 2 weeks now .. any good news ? :\

Yeah, some, but basically, 94% of what was here, got sold off, and for cheap :| Essentially, my sister squandered my Pop's collection of tools and antiques, just so the farm can be sold sooner.

Guess the good news is, it's over. Now comes the 'after-incident consolidation'

I am still lost here, but i see by reading the comments that most things were sold, but i don't really know your stance on this so i will still ask? how did it go?

That's a tough one... but from my point of view, it went badly. The auctioneer put as little effort into it as he could. We didn't have time to make up attractive lots... rather they didn't have the time - I was dead set against putting out tools without making up sets. We made far less than I expected, but my sis thought it was within her expectations :\

That's the grim, short answer.

Looks like comments are opened up again! Shame to hear things didn't sell well, was the auction held at the farm? By a firm? By you? Up North the auctions usually sell really cheap, everybody's moving South to the cities, it's a long way there, so items aren't valued as high as they should be... and so much just gets thrown away. We went to an auction last summer, didn't buy anything, just dug up a few useful household appliances, pots, plates; interesting stuff other people had thrown. :) They sell out things in batches, and usually the people buying just want a certain item and throw the rest. Real waste...

Yep, you've been at a rural auction, you know the score. Yeah, the auction was here.... and I got a hotel room, too avoid being woke up by many dozens of profiteering humans. I know almost anything of value is up on ebay right now :|

Nah, this auctioneer was supposedly one of the better ones, but they just didnt have the people and the time to make us any decent money. Plus, my sister gave them the impression, this was a fire sale, not a careful event...

Woa, so i guess your sis wasn't thinking much of the stuff from the beginning, i'm sorry to hear that, it sounds like if they were selling hindrances and they just wanted to get rid of it fast.

If i was you i would be feeling bad too. It seems like you sold quite a lot of things, even if the profits were lower than they should.

I actually much like CD said, prefer to look for individual items than just for things on batches, but i also understand that selling a whole kit of something raises the value of the whole set, but you normally can negotiate that you are only interested on one part of the whole deal, well depending on the auction that is, normally everything is lumped together, but anyway to put things on groups makes the whole process faster, what a pity that you were short on time and personnel.

I think it's more a shipping and price issue, considering a lot of it was heavy and specialized stuff. Ever try and mail a solid copper washing machine?

Still, the whole thing went poorly... I knew the glass and housewares stuff wouldn't bring much, sad to say. Everyone likes plastic disposable thingies, and not regal finely crafted stuffs... all about flash and microprocessors, intellectual ethernet, and clowns on the stage.

Mhhh a solid copper washing machine? that's a relic, which i really can't see how is that you sold it to begin with, maybe an eccentric wanted the motor and the copper?

Really? i myself still like fine Tableware, it gives that classy feeling when you eat even if is a goddamn burger with fires haha, oh and mi mom loves old furniture and the likes, aesthetics i guess.

But i guess that is, other housewares must be harder to sell, on the other hand Farm tools and the like must be on better grounds, since most are made to last, so time isn't really that big of a player, though i have no idea about farms so i may be talking out of my ass here.

Maybe, but I hear they still use them in Amish lands... besides, copper is durable... though, they do use copper kettles in confectioneries. They were legit Sears and Roebucks washtubs... though the rollers were degraded (early rubber mix).

My Pop used to put old hoe heads and new handles together... painted and sharpened the blades, used linseed oil on the handles. I hope they actually get used to turn over weeds, they way they were meant to. What's more likely to happen: hung in a shed or in a whack restaurant, then actually used by desperately hungry people, with damn little info on farming. There were about 40 he did, I think we have 2 or 3 left..

Oh well look at that i didn't even know that they still used it, i was thinking of it from an historic value, like having a damn washing machine made out of copper!

So the visitors: "say no way!"

and the host comes and says: "behold!"

And pow there is a solid copper washing machine!!!!

I see so your dad actually made those? interesting.
When you said that it would be used by people with no info on farming, i imagined them assaulting the restaurant using them as weapons hahaha.

There's that too.... I think they were made pre-WWII |: was either that, Chinese laundry or the ole washboard and tub, yo.

Actually, he was more of a mechanical engineer, good one too.
Lol, yeah, with any luck, those hoes will rid lots of weeds.....

Wait you managed to sell a washboard!? for real? dude that guy was a salesman genius!

Huh, probably did... but everything went in huge unsorted lots |: They (I hope) still sell washboards. Uses a lot less water.

In the spirit of not clogging Mr Cyberdevil blog with more of myself, i will answer here, yes you can play PS3 offline, and GTA-V has single player campaign.

Well yes it uses less resources, but it takes more effort and time... i think they still sell them, because there are plenty of things that have to be watched by hand, mostly extremely delicate fabric.

Hmm, okay. It's more to help an NG members friend... but I'd sure like to get straight to gaming, instead of building a PC, that also might not be able to get online (wifi distance)

I still have a typewriter, just in case the (electrical) grid goes down... either permanently or for a while :|

Damn the nostalgia and the attachment, it seems it is more serious than i though it was, i feel you man, somethings have value beyond their materials and practical uses.

Well if you are going to buy a PS3 for 400, why don't you wait a little bit more, like lets say 4 months, and just get your self a PS4, the price would have dropped, and the bugs fixed, plus it will have more games by then, and the good thing is that since a lot of people complained the consoles no longer require permanent internet connectivity, i mean that idea was crazy stupid since even Steam has an offline mode, however, some games will come that need to be played 100% online, luckily GTA-V is not one of those.

Ah oooooh, i see well we have a problem there, i read now that it was to help a friend, well the question bowls down to how many games will come with the console, because you see, that is practically what the new generations will cost after this year, yea i was about to end this rant with "But PC is still better" and i guess i did.

Hmmm, think I'm just gonna build a PC. My last one got shorted out by a bad audio card I installed :\ Besides, consoles are for kids and the games kinda reflect that....

Yeah, my buddy here knows I'd like to help, but am ambivalent, sadly. If they don't get any takers past this weekend, I told him to contact me... like about 2 dozen games :| Gamestop can't be that cheap, can they?!

Nah, I'm with you, PC games are better, but just barely. I have a dislike of Steam-linked games, or anything that requires a constant link to the buttheads who made the game... I'm a single player/storymode kinda guy... just my primitive digital heritage, I guess.

Eye for an eye? I thought you of all ppl wouldn't fall into a chain letter's promise of voodoo, stoking the neural hobgoblins of little minds. Besides, that gun isn't even 2 inches long :|

Pff i have a tank!

I've seen this tank recently, trying to get Google+ out of YouTube... fat chance of that.

You wouldn't come to my funeral (which I doubt I'll have) anyway... you're way the hell over on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, homie!

Thanks for the sentiment, but I've seen actual chain letters, long before the internet was mainstream. Means I am one old fart :p

Besides, the 'your' at the bottom should be 'you are' or 'you're' :|

That's the original one posted below... probably. :) I guess I was enticed by this specific chain letter's promise of good recreation and variational nostalgia, alas, I remember an age when I actually received such responsive tidings via e-mail...never in such amounts they became annoying though.

Ah, that's why I was always very careful with my email address. In the very early dial-up days, I was on AOL. I think I had just a few chain emails, thanks to hackers or randomly generated email addresses... I got a better deal with a local dial-up ISP soon afterwards.

Heh, yeah, some were pretty cute, back in the day.

eh, sorry about this but I'm gonna do it anyway lol:

Ha, s'okay... might as well return the favor, to all those who've thrown guns at me. 13 is my lucky number anyway.

Looks you've jumping onto the bandwagon too! :D

I think the bandwagon drove over me D:

Well the consoles have some games for mature people too, don't star with the prejudice now.

I see in the end do what makes you feel better man.

Lots of Steam games can be played offline, indeed, steam has an offline mode.

Aircraft use some pretty expensive gas, yo. Boku octane rating.

Nah... there's been this sea-change that's been favoring consoles over PC's, over the past decade. Now most PC gamers play console games that are ported to PC, and not vise-versa, though the Xbox is mostly a PC platform... Eh, I'll just get off the fence and order the parts to a new PC... maybe get some free games from torrents, if I can't buy older games (DVD mailed to me) online.

So, how'd it go, VE? Feelin' better yet? :)

Oh, from the looting? No, it's gonna take a while. Still haven't cleaned up the big garage or the barn yet... old dust is dangerous dust, especially all the grinding, welding and soldering that went on in the garage :P And the barn is loaded with spider-mite turds, the most allergic thing out there - they eat dust, and crap, but it takes a decade or so (of accumulation) to build up to dangerous levels.

You've been on NG since 2001? Holy shit, I thought you were her since 2007 or something. lol.

Yup, I'm an auld doggie who needs to be put down. Actually, there were a few years I couldn't log on to this account, thanks to Lil Jim messing with the password system. Stats be damned... I'm an NG OG ;)

I really don't know, it was already fully loaded with gas when i took it from Nietz.

Oh talking about old games here are some pages where you could get them courtesy of Cyberdevil:
http://snesbox.com/
http://www.abandonia.com/
http://www.myabandonware.com/
http://caiman.us/
http://www.moddb.com/
http://www.desura.com/
http://www.gog.com/

And of course there is steam, man we should play some Dota 2, i will even coach you so you could be as bad as me!!!
Anyway, bookmark all those they are great pages for old games, mods, demos, indi games, etc.
Tell you the truth i myself haven't been using them that much, because i know they will consume some considerable amount of time.

Yeah lately is console games being ported to PC, bu i am fine with it, really a good game is good regardless of platform, and there are some PC games that will be too impossible to play on consoles so yeah...

You should use dust mask and gloves, boots, well you know the proper attire, specially around these times of the year, tell you the truth, why don't you wait? because starting to clean now is just practically asking for a cold or something worse.

I see so all those war vehicles are from ( o Y o )'s army? which is founded by Bandai!?

I saw his list of retro/indie links.. nice, but I grew up with all that primitive stuff, and have mostly crappy memories of how lame and brain frying it all was. It's just, my old computer died a while ago, and have nothing play PC games on... you need a multicore CPU to do that, these days. Just being lazy about choosing hardware to stick together (and hope it comes out okay).

Respirators filter most nasty stuff out, but usually you're working hard while using one, thereby putting more stress on the filtering... pumped in air, into a hood would be the best option. Either way, I gotta get dirty :( Tired of getting dirty, and working with little hope of accomplishment and gain....
