Since you live in farmland and I think you have vast knowledge on gardening, what's your best advice for growing foods in backyard?
Well, if the ground is okay (un-polluted), go for it! How healthy are the things growing there now? Any animals eat what grows there (good sign for health, bad sign for keeping what you grow)?
In 2 weeks time, I'll start germinating seeds in a hotbed, which is nothing more than a shallow box with a clear top. I'll be using wood, bricks and large pieces of plexiglass to make mine, but in the past, we've used windows, glass, saran wrap... it's basically a miniature http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gree nhouse
Uh, you'll need potting soil, little plastic trays for the soil, seeds... be sure to get a few buckets. It's a good thing to let tap water sit outside for a day or two: to get warm, and for water additives to break down or evaporate.
Tilling the soil is the biggie... as is weed control :|
