It's the lack of transparency from anyone with large amounts of money, mostly. International corporations got their start here because regulators allow super-huge mergers, which goes against the diversity of free enterprise.
I'm sure much of it can be explained by "The New World Order" and cheaper foreign products... our Nation was made great by imposing a 200% tariff on ANYTHING coming into this country - that made us self sufficient with what we've got, right here. From my point of view, Reagan started this mess by lifting the tariffs on Japanese cars. Back then, there was a lot of European crap on the roads here (imho, it was cool to see the diversity and competition).
